A slick cat-and-mouse thriller with suspense in spades, Law Abiding Citizen is the ultimate vigilante revenge film, and on February 16th you'll be able to own it on DVD and Blu-Ray.
A successful assistant D.A. Nick Rice (Foxx) finds himself unwillingly at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by Clyde Shelton, a traumatized victim of the legal system (Butler). Butler's character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter's murderers will be set free. Unwilling to let the uneven hand of justice make the last call, Clyde unleashes a meticulous onslaught of revenge on the killers and those who made the deal. Anyone associated with the case finds themselves a marked target in a deadly game where the victim becomes the assailant and safety is a distant memory (read ComingSoon's Law Abiding Citizen review).
The visceral rush of just revenge runs throughout nearly the entire length of the film, and it's often hard to forget that John Grisham wasn't a key player in scripting. Director F. Gary Gray works a master stroke of suspense as both Butler and Foxx turn in solid adversarial performances.
Standard retail price for the standard DVD is $29.99, while the Blu-Ray weighs in at ten dollars more - but the unrated director's cut with 11 minutes of unseen footage, exclusive to the Blu-Ray, makes the extra green well worth it. Of course, you can always pre-order it for cheaper, so why not?
The special feature bells & whistles include the following:
* Audio commentary
* Behind the scenes featurettes
* Unrated Director’s Cut of the film (Blu-ray only)
