"The Andromeda Strain" is a special four-hour A&E science-fiction miniseries based on Michael Chrichton’s 1969 novel about a team of scientists sent to investigate a deadly disease of alien origin.

Executive produced by Ridley and Tony Scott (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Crimson Tide), directed by Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers) and written by Robert Schenkkan (The Quiet American), this thrilling miniseries features a well-known cast of actors including Benjamin Bratt (Law and Order), Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) and Rick Schroder (NYPD Blue).

A U.S. government satellite that’s picked up a deadly microorganism out in space crashes to earth and lands in a small, fictional town in Utah. Two teens find the orbiter and take it back to town, where they open it and inadvertently release an extra-terrestrial nightmare. A team is sent from the bio-defense unit of the Army to retrieve the satellite, only to discover a town that’s been wiped out by the mysterious new arrival. The team soon comes to discover the horror that awaits them, which has been code-named Andromeda.

Government cover-ups, advanced alien technology, countdowns to nuclear destruction – how much better can it get? With a budget of $15 million, the mini-series was extremely well put together, features a compelling storyline with excellent special effects and performances by the cast. DVD Bonus Features include design and photo galleries, trailers for the film and audio commentaries with Mikael Salomon, David W. Zucker, Tom Thayer and Scott Vickrey.

The Andromeda Strain DVD collection is the perfect addition to any sci-fi junkie’s collection.
