Bourne Ultimatum on DVD

A tough look at the third installment.
The Bourne Ultimatum really delivered where most trilogies falter by part three. A DVD full of extras to show more Bourne is certainly interesting. With such a tightly conceived thriller, there's no question it did not need any additional scenes. The deleted scenes are purely a curiosity.

Pamela Landy fans will see more detail about how she got ousted from her post. A scene in Madris has some good Bourne-style cryptic pursuit. Not action per se, but tension. There's a new scene with the journalist who's onto Bourne. Eh, that was well covered in the film. More shots of Bourne tailing people or setting up items he needs are always cool. There's a hint of a fight scene but it defuses quickly. It's 12 minutes of solid scenes, not just trims.

If you want to know how they filmed all those kick-ass action scenes, there are plenty of behind the scenes featurettes. They gave a spotlight to each international location and focused on scenes like the rooftop chase, fight sequence and car chase.

Technicians seem to approach tricky details like cold, snow, moving parts and all with ease like Jason Bourne himself. The spots move quickly so it doesn't revel too long in the nuts and bolts. Scenes of Matt Damon behind the scenes show a bit of playful fun.

Damon adds a personal touch to fighting and driving spots, letting them interview him on camera as he goes through prep. It's still more about the behind the scenes people explaining how they prepared the scenes. The martial arts display is cool on its own, regardless of the movie's context. Paul Greengrass gives a feature length commentary as well.
