Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid, is a big fan of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. I know, let that sink in. One of the most creative minds for any form of entertainment, ever, is a fan of probably the sappiest, lamest vampire "saga" ever made. Responsible for turning vampires from scary, no bullshit immortal beasties, to angsty teens more concerned with making the starting line-up of the Lacrosse team than who their next prey will be.
Well, Kojima is such a "big fan" that he has opted to judge a fan art contest based around the second entry into the Twlight series, New Moon. Although, as of now, it looks like this will be a Japanese only contest, with all submissions being posted through pixiv, the overseas equivalent of deviantArt.
Kojima joins Evangelion character designer and manga creator Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and Twilight's manga artist (this exists?) Ryuji Gotsubo as judges. With Kojima throwing a signed copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots into the pile of grand prizes for the contest.
But even I, who am a gigantic Kojima fan, have lost a wee-bit of respect for the man (a very very small bit). But seriously, how can you like a vampire series where when a vampire going out in the sun makes them sparkle. They don't combust, they glitter. Without Mariah Carey. It just makes me angry thinking about it. But I digress.
Either way, if you speak Japanese, have an account on pixiv, and of course, love Twilight, then this contest is for you...and Kojima. So get to crafting your best rendition of Edward sans shirt and get on with the submittin'.
