This November there is one game that will be on everyone's "must buy" list. That game is Modern Warfare 2. Quite Possibly the biggest video game release since Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2 has a great chance of being the best selling video game of all time. It's also getting a lot of flak for its depictions of terrorism and a war-torn Washington D.C. But who cares about that, it's going to be awesome. But Modern Warfare 2 isn't the only title coming out this month, we'll also see the release of a new Mario game on the Wii, the continuation of the Jak & Daxter series, and the second chapter of the Assassin's Creed saga. So let's get on with the gaming guide.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
System: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release Date: 11/10/09
Here it is. The biggest game release of the year, with projections made that it will be the best selling video game of all time. We've played the multiplayer portion of Modern Warfare 2 and it was great. Nothing groundbreaking, but it takes everything that was already great about the first Modern Warfare and improves upon the foundation to make an experience that is truly multiplayer bliss. And while the Call of Duty series has become known for it's multiplayer, much like the Halo series, Infinity Ward is no slouch with their single player campaigns. Personally, the story in the first Modern Warfare is the only war video game narrative I've ever liked, spanning multiple lead characters and isn't just strung together with news clippings and stock footage. Modern Warfare 2 looks to be even better as the war comes to our own doorstep. And if you want to show your love for Infinity Ward and Modern Warfare, get out and reserve a copy of the Prestige Edition that comes with real Night Vision goggles.
Assassin's Creed II
System: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, DS
Release Date: 11/17/09
Looking back, the first Assassin's Creed had a lot of problems. Sure, it was a cool new IP in a sea of sequels but after that initial appeal wore off the game got really old, really fast. And the story; no payoff whatsoever. Hopefully all that changes with Assassin's Creed II. The developers at Ubisoft have taken the complaints of the first game to heart and have set out to fix all of them. Assassin's Creed II also moves the setting away from Altair and the Holy Crusades to a young nobleman-turned-assassin, Ezio, during the Italian Renaissance. We're really pulling for the folks at Ubisoft to take the foundation of the first game and improve on the trouble areas to make Assassin's Creed II great and prove this franchise has legs.
