Dante:
The puzzles do kind of get on my nerves too. It goes back to your dumb video game cliché’s article where basically I have a rocket launcher in Resident Evil, but I can’t use it to blow open a regular door. Wolverine does commit this atrocity to logic but I forgive them to a point. The game could have had more places to explore and could have been a little more open world. As far as the narrative goes my feeling is this, this game is loosely based on the film and the films are only loosely based on the comics so I have no qualms about accuracy, the point is to make a great game and I think they did that. The costumes are relatively easy to find, especially since you really can’t explore much of the levels. The cool thing is once you find the costumes that’s only one part of the deal. After finding the costumes you have to battle Wolverine in that costume in order to get it. It’s like a tutorial on ass kicking because Wolverine is one tough customer both times. The cool thing about the extra suits is they don’t degrade like Logan’s tank top which I liked, it would have sucked to do all that work for the costume and then never get to see it. Wolverine still takes ass loads of damage and it still looks cool, but the costume ‘heals’ and I think it’s rather cool.

Jeremy:
Dude I just can't find those costumes because I get so caught up in murdering bad guys that I fly through the levels and miss half of the secret passageways. Which is unusual for me, because I usually try to collect everything. But the bottom line is that the combat just overrides everything... there must be 100 different ways to rip people apart in this game. It's almost shocking how gory it is! Man, in the first level alone you catapult onto a helicopter, drag the pilot through the windshield and stick his head into the propeller. It's insane. But the puzzles just ruin it for me, having to jump on those lava enemy's backs and stab them close to 100 times, it's a chore. And that part where you lose your healing ability and have to navigate past all those turrets? Total bullshit. I don't think having a cute costume would make that any less annoying. But the developers make up for it with the more evenly matched boss battles, like the one against Sabertooth early in the game. It's an epic fight, to say the least.

I think if you take out the puzzles the game become monotonous, sure there are a lot of ways to kill people but the controls are really very simple when you look at it. If there were no puzzles you would get tired of punching X X Y every thirty seconds in no time. Plus I can’t lie that there is a very good sense of accomplishment when I complete those puzzles. I agree that some of them are overly frustrating like the area where you lose your powers, but it just makes you more eager to kill something when the time comes, you get pissed off like Wolverine you know. For all the readers I can’t stress enough how much fun I have tearing said bad guys to shreds, the game has to be experienced to get a true sense of how damn dangerous you are as Wolverine. The game has a lot of cool touches that comic book fans will appreciate and it manages to do a lot of things well. What did you think of the games pacing, does it seem long to you?

Jeremy:
The pacing is fine, and it's not that I don't think there should be puzzles, it's just that, if there's a turret pointed at me, I want to be able to sneak around and destroy it quickly and stealthily, not be activating a switch and clumsily walking next to an automated blast shield that moves across the floor inexplicably. I want to tear the effing shield off its track and jam it into the turret, or leap over it, tear it loose and jam it up the next soldier I see's pee hole.

Dante:
While I know nothing of any pee hole cramming I do know that the finished product of X-Men Origins Wolverine is well balanced and fun. In the end despite all our gripes the game is fun and we can agree on that. It’s available in this form for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, just be on the lookout for the Uncaged Edition. The handhelds will get their own versions of the game which should also be pretty entertaining as well.
Conclusion: We don’t see eye to eye on every aspect of the game, we both agree that it’s worth your hard earned dollars.
