2. WWF Wrestlemania 2000

Wrestlemania 2000 was released at the peak of wrestling's popularity during the "Attitude Era", and - though somewhat unfortunate - has remained the peak of wrestling games ever since. Though its successor No Mercy added a few new match types, it was WM2000 that delivered the first real (read: good) WWF experience on the Nintendo 64, complete with the best characters of the time, complete freedom for editing the default characters, an in depth create-a-wrestler mode, an entertaining (though somewhat unfair) career mode - and all of this using the best wrestling engine of all time.

Even though AKI had already made WCW/NWO Revenge using the same engine, the WWF licensing made the game that much better. Plus, the developers included pretty much all the create-a-wrestler elements - from taunts to attire - needed to make the roster from the WCW games.

Due to my constant screwing by Vince McMahon in the game's story mode, I still have yet to unlock Shawn Michaels in the game, which is only accomplished by either winning or defending the WWF Championship at the titular Wrestlemania 2000, at the end of a year of the career mode. Vince never fails to strip me of my title right before Wrestlemania, and not give me a rematch. Just like the real thing!
