9. Pac-Man World

There isn't a gamer in the world without a soft spot for Pac-Man. But in 1999, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original game, Namco delivered the first 3D platform game in Pac-Man's repertoire. Pac-Man World gave the yellow dot muncher a back story, supporting characters, and a plot. Though they attempted to have some "throwbacks" to the original game, there was really no other reason for this game to exist other than to jump aboard the 3D platforming craze that was happening at the time. I'm not sure who was writing to Namco telling them that we needed modern day incarnation of Pac-Man, let alone adding an entire mythos. What I am sure of, is that whoever that person was, I wish horrible things upon them.
