When Driver came out in 1999, it was quite a revelation. I played that game for hours. Then Driver 2 hit, with on foot missions, and it was one of the most terrible games I've ever had the unfortunate task of playing. And then of course, came Grand Theft Auto III, which took everything that Driver 2 had attempted, amplified it by twenty, and actually made it work - all the while adding in awesome voice acting and ruthless storyline. So that's why, when Atari put out Driv3r in 2004, most of us were perplexed at what they thought they could accomplish.Essentially, they had taken Driver 2 and added a new polish of graphics, but the gameplay was just as awful as before. Even GTA clones like The Getaway were more successful at the formula Driver had originally developed. Unfortunately, no one seemed to get the hint that gamers just didn't care, and new Driver games continued to be released on mobile phones and PSP. Even better, there's word that a new installment for consoles is currently in development. Jump for joy!
