Funneled into one of the meeting rooms at the New York, New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, we were given a swanky, extravagant hands-on with the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game. Having the entire mass of journalists split into two groups, we were among the first to get a crack at the game’s biggest draw--multiplayer.
Our play experience included two maps, and two different game-types. The first was your standard team death-match on the “Freeway” level, and the second being control points in the “Construction Pit.” In a creative choice for match entry, all players spawned with their characters rocketing down towards Earth in their asteroid form, much like how you saw the Autobots arrive to our planet in the first Transformers movie.
Having chosen Starscream we were able to instantly transform into jet mode with a hold of the right trigger, slam on the afterburners with a press of “A,” and get right into the heat of the action which definitely had that “little kid wow factor.” Just being able to drive/ fly as fast as possible at your enemies, press a single button to morph into robot form and charge in, guns blazing, was extremely satisfying.
