A preview of the Wii version of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

“This is no port,” was one of the very first things we were told when we picked up the Wii-mote and nunchuck to give Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen a try. Developers Krome Studios have given Wii owners their own unique experience with Revenge of the Fallen, with a heavy emphasis on fun and marketed towards the casual gamer, as well as the family.

The first thing to note about the Wii version of Revenge of the Fallen is that it stays very much in-line with the plot progression of the feature film of the same name. You will be playing missions as both the Autobots and Decepticons, depending on where the story is headed. This is a very different approach to the narrative that the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game have taken, where you play two completely different campaigns—one to save the world, the other to conquer it. Here on the Wii you don’t take any one side, instead progressing linearly through the narrative, covering the actions of both factions until the story is over.

The game is broken into a number of different acts, with chapter breaks making up each level. The demo we were given by Activision and Krome focused on three specific levels. Levels that showcased the different game-play types Revenge of the Fallen offers—side scrolling beat-um-up, car chase, and flying missions. This is a way for the action to stay fresh and gives a great dynamic to the overall game with each chapter switching between game types.
