Remember Star Wars Trilogy Arcade? How about the bonus level where you had to either deflect laser blasts from Boba Fett with a lightsaber in order to knock him into the Sarlacc Pit? Or the one where you dueled Darth Vader on the Second Death Star? Do you remember wishing that instead of a little crap arcade joystick you were able to wield an actual lightsaber to raise the cool factor through the roof? Well in a way, roughly eleven years later, gaming has finally reached the point where a motion controlled lightsaber is possible and the first strides have been made with a Wii-mote peripheral developed by Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, Inc. in conjunction with the release of Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.

The accessory will finally give gamers the ability to stand in front of their televsions in only their underwear yet be able to imagine themselves protectors of an entire galaxy. The lightsabers also come in different flavors...er....colors to choose from--green or blue--whether you're a fan of Yoda or Anakin Skywalker respectively. But for that full Star Wars experience you better touch up on your lighsaber swooshing noises. Unfortunately, they aren't included with this peripheral.
But that's not all, Bensussen is also coming out with a Republic blaster attachment for your Wii-mote in case you're a bigger fan of stormtroopers than Jedis (strange, but understandable). The blaster even includes stickers for you to pimp out your plastic with.

Now while these Wii-mote peripherals are everything hardcore Star Wars fans have dreamed of for some time, the game they are being touted with is something that doesn't really cater to the experience of swinging a lightsaber. Republic Heroes is a hack n' slash adventure where swinging the Wii-mote back and forth is the maximum amount of exertion needed in order to wield the galaxy's classiest weapon. But, it's a start. Now that this accessory is coming out we might see more Star Wars titles taking advantage of what Bensussen has created in the future. Perhaps maybe a first person lightsaber game? One that effectively uses Wii Motion Plus for example. Here's hoping.
No price or exact release date has been announced as of yet. But expect these peripherals to weigh in at roughly $20. The standard for such things.
