If you just can't get enough of summer, with all the hotties out tanning on the beach, the sweet sensation of lotioning up your hairy inner thighs, and being forced to listen to Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" on repeat, then Microsoft's yearly summer extravaganza--Xbox Live: Summer of Arcade--will feel right at home for you. Last year's "Summer of Arcade" produced some of the best titles Xbox Live Arcade has seen during its lifespan with games such as Geometry Wars 2: Retro Evolved, Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Braid. But this year could give last's a run for its money. The "event" plans to run from July 22nd through August 19th with a new anticipated title releasing every week.
**UPDATE-- Two titles from the "Summer of Arcade" have swapped release dates. This article has been updates to reflex that change.
July 22nd--'Splosion Man (800 MS Points)

From the creators of The Maw, 'Splosion Man is the latest Arcade title from Twisted Pixel studios. What is unique about 'Splosion Man, outside of not using an extreme "X" in the title, is pretty much...well...everything. The game is designed for laughs, with the lead character being born in a military lab and made up of plasmas that can explode...er...'splode on command, turning his enemies, such as scientists, into chucks of ham and ribeyes. Sound awesome? It should.
The title will feature both a single player campaign and four player co-op. If you're looking for some sort of comparison, 'Splosion Man gives off a very Earthworm Jim vibe to it. However, unlike Earthworm Jim, 'Splosion Man is a 2-D side scroller with 3-D graphics. Twisted Pixel is labeling this as "2.5-D." We're labeling it as "fun."
July 29th--Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (1200 MS Points)

Come on.....every video gamer on the planet knows of this title. And if you're a fighting game fan, you probably already hold this gem as the pinnacle acheivement for the fighting genre. While the game hasn't received a full on HD treatment, the level backgrounds, which where originally uber detailed but scaled back for the original release due to hardware constraints are now fully restored and able to shine in their full glory, as intended. However, it makes the sprite characters of the game stick out like a sore thumb now.
But the point is: the game still features all the goodness that made the title a must own in the first place and even now has the added bonus of online multiplayer. Allowing the best in the world at letting Wolverine do what he does best have at it.
