DC Universe Online finally has a set-in-stone release date of January 11, 2011 in North America and January 14 in the UK. Sony Online Entertainment also detailed a special pricing for DCU Online. While players can choose to buy the game for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on PS3 with the standard $15 monthly subscription fee, they can instead opt to buy a lifetime subscription for $199.99. That’s the value of a 13-month subscription. So for those sure they will be playing DCU Online longer than 13 months, this deal is a steal.

Sony plans to keep DCU Online running for well over a year, with Game Director Chris Cao saying, “We're going to be here for far more than a single year. We've got a lot of universe to build, and we're not going to stop anytime soon."

Cao also detailed with IGN an end-of-the-world event to close out the DCU Online beta before the game goes live on shelves.

"Jim Lee and our friends at DC are going to join us in a live, end-of-beta event where players will fight alongside and against the iconics as Brainiac's menace yet looms. It will be an epic end and thank you for beta. And it will set the stage for the real struggle to come in live,” said Cao.
