The delay of Gears of War 3 from April 2011 to "Fall 2011" hit us hard. We haven't slept in days. But Epic Games today cushioned the blow by announcing that Gears of War 3 will get a multiplayer beta next year. On top of that, Gears of War 3 will support dedicated servers, circumventing a lot of the problems Gears of War 1 & 2 players experienced with online multiplayer and game hosts having a slight edge over the competition due to less lag.
Very little is known right now about this Gears 3 beta. We're interested to find out how you go about securing an invite. It could, potentially, involve sending love letters to the team at Epic, with the best, most disgusting ones winning a beta key. Who knows. But it's good news all around that a multiplayer beta is happening. Hopefully the feedback from players will help Epic ensure that Gears of War 3 doesn't share the same fate as Gears 2 did at launch. That was a complete clusterf*ck.
