Arkham City Story and Gameplay Details

We know the story setup and some of the new gameplay additions to the hot sequel.

Story and gameplay details for the Arkham Asylum sequel have leaked before the latest issue of Game Informer had a chance to hit store shelves. Thanks to ArkhamCity.co.uk we now have them posted all over the internet.

But before we go any further, file these under "rumor status" for now. They could very well be legit, but until the September issue of Game Informer hits shelves, we aren't totally sure.

So, Arkham City. Turns out that Black Gate prison and Arkham Asylum are unfit to hold inmates. This leads Quincy Sharp, warden of Arkham Asylum and candidate for Mayor of Gotham, to buy off a part of the Gotham slums and create "Arkham City." He puts Hugo Strange in charge of running this "city."

This goes in line with a video Game Informer just published showing a secret room of Quincy Sharp's in Arkham Asylum--accessible by the player--that has concept art and a blueprint for the layout of "Arkham City." Check it out at the link provided.

Meanwhile, Two-Face is trying to earn street cred within the new medicated city. He plans to murder Catwoman to gain it. Could this be what the Game Informer covers were insinuating by having Catwoman tied up and a Two-Face poster in the background? We think so.

As for gameplay, all the gadgets Batman finished Arkham Asylum with will be available from the start of Arkham City. The game will also have more puzzles, new side quests and more Riddler challenges, accessible by finding Riddler's cronies through Arkham City. Batman will also be able to counter two enemies at once. Gangs will be freely roaming Arkham City which Batman can record in his criminal database--though we're not sure the purpose of this. And lastly, expect Batman's smoke bombs to make an appearance this time around.

We were already sold on Batman: Arkham City. Now we have to go change our pants, this sounds great. Come on next Fall, get here, dammit!
