The New Xbox 360 Slim is now officially available after being revealed during Microsoft’s press conference at E3 2010. And it is a sexy beast with mucho improvements to the baseline model that has existed since 2005. Let’s take a look at each.
Sleeker is Sexier
The first thing you’ll notice about the new Xbox 360 Slim is its slick new body design. It features a high gloss black finish in order to disappear into your entertainment center like a stealth panther. The system also has replaced buttons for power and disc eject with touch sensitive buttons that require only a finger to brush alongside them to trigger a command.
Don’t Lie, Bigger is Better
The new Xbox 360 Slim comes packed with the largest available HDD possible--250gb. With the ever expanding Xbox marketplace of demos, games, arcade titles, movies and music, it’s essential to have a lot of spare space available to save all the content you purchase and download. 250gb should be more than enough. Good thing it comes standard with the Xbox 360 Slim.
Internet Without Cables, Nice!
When the Xbox 360 was original pitched it was next-gen gaming without wires. That stood true for the controllers, not so much for getting internet access to your console. The PS3 had wireless internet capabilities. So did the Wii. Now it’s the Xbox’s turn. The new Xbox 360 Slim comes with built-in Wi-Fi. In fact, the Xbox 360 Slim is the only system with 802.11n wireless capabilities, the fastest wireless type around.
Quiet Like a Ninja
The original Xbox 360s were loud as a mother. Listening to the system’s disc drive getting up to speed to read a disc was like listening to a cat running its nails down a chalkboard. No more! The new 360 Slim is “whisper quiet,” meaning exactly what it says: you won’t hear the thing running....ever, a huge upgrade from previous models. Frankly, it’s about time you stopped worrying that you’re 360 was on the fritz when all it was doing was loading a game.
Kinect Ready
Jazzed for Kinectimals? If so, the new 360 Slim is “Kinect ready” out of the box. But don’t start freaking out, thinking your older 360 won’t be able to play the device at all. What this means is that the new 360 has a built-in Kinect power supply connector so you won’t need to provide your own power source for the motion controller when you pick it up in November. This helps cut down wires running through your living room which is nothing but a good thing.
Overall, the Xbox 360 Slim definitely has enough improvements to warrant the purchase, even if you already own an older Xbox 360. It looks slicker, has the max amount of HD space available, comes with Wi-Fi internet connectivity, and is super quiet. All of these things lead to a product made of awesomeness.
