While we thought we would have to wait till the holidays for a new Modern Warfare 2 map pack, it seems that's not the case. June 3 is the official date of the next MW2 map pack, entitled the "Resurgence Pack." However, it was not until today that we received any firm details about what would be included.
But now we've got details and we've got pricing. And once again, thanks to the millions who ponied up the ridiculous price point for the Stimulus Package, we're going to have to pay up the ass for more Modern Warfare 2 maps. And just like before, only three of the five maps being added are new (Carnival, Trailer Park, Fuel), the other two recycled from the first Modern Warfare (Vacant, Strike).

At first I attempted to write up this article objectively and just detail the actual maps being offered. I found that impossible. My rage started to seep through my emotionless words and I couldn't control it. Damn you, Activision! I would really like to play new Modern Warfare 2 content, I still really like that game, warts and all. But these map packs are priced at such an obscene level that any sane person--one not completely obsessed and starving for anything with the Modern Warfare 2 branding--cannot justify the cost. I know for a fact that both Crave's Joey Davidson and I have not given in to the cost of the Stimulus Package. A few new maps are not worth it. And while I was excited about the news that there would be more maps for MW2 before Christmas, I'm once again disappointed by Activision's complete disregard for the wallets of its fanbase. Especially considering the penny-pinching times we currently live in.
But Joey and I are in the vast minority here because a lot of people did buy the first map pack. In fact, 2.5 million units of the Stimulus Package were sold in the first week, at $15 a pop. There is no reason for Activision to approach this new map pack any other way. The Stimulus Package was an obvious success for Activision. Their strategy worked so they're doing it again: three new maps, two recycles, all at the "valued" price of $15.
I'm sorry Activision, I loved Modern Warfare 2, but you're doing everything in your power to push me away to other franchises. Ones where I can find good value in the game post launch. I need longevity in the games I buy. Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, for example. Mostly because EA Games and DICE are actually tweaking and updating that game constantly, as well as offering FREE DLC as a reward for those who invested in their product. Activision, you're taking advantage of your fans when you should be honoring them for making your game the highest grossing piece of entertainment in history. For shame.
