Well played, Microsoft. Well played. Remember when I mentioned that Cliffy B., design director on the Gears of War franchise, was planning to unveil Epic's new game on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? Well he still is, but the debut was bumped from last night, Thursday, April 8th, to next Monday, April 12th, so Epic could put some finishing touches on the trailer premiere for this mystery game.
However, Microsoft and Xbox Live apparently didn't get the memo and have mistakenly put up an image in the "spotlight" section of the Xbox dashboard announcing Gears of War 3 and its April 2011 release date. They also go on to say the "the epic story concludes," signaling the end of the road for Marcus, Dom, Baird, and Cole Train. Woooooo!

So now that we know the mystery game is indeed Gears of War 3 it's just a matter of waiting till Monday to see a trailer for the thing. Or maybe, if we're lucky, Microsoft will just release it early since the cat's already out of the bag. Fingers crossed. Although as of right now Microsoft is playing the whole "no comment" game.
