The Weapons of Aliens vs. Predator

A look at the weapons from the AvP games.

To celebrate Rebellion Developments' relaunch of the popular gaming franchise, Aliens vs. Predator, we've decided to get in our time machine and look back on the weapons that made the original titles so awesome in the first place. Whether you played as a marine, an Alien, or the uber powerful Predator, each species had a very distinct arsenal for blowing opposing foes to bits. Let us raise our glasses to those, the three most badass weapons of each species.

Marines

M240 Flamethrower - Let's get right down to business, while you couldn't pull a "Ripley" and duct tape the flamethrower and grenade launcher together in either of the original AvP games, the flamethrower still served as one hell of a way to barbecue some aliens. It also had a great secondary feature: the lighter fluid made for a great flashlight to illuminate otherwise pitch black hallways. That's a double whammy!

M-41A Pulse Rifle -
The pulse rifle might be the default marine gun but it's one you'll be constantly using through the course of these games. One, if you run out of ammo you can always use the butt of the gun to pistol-whip the hell out of an enemy that just won't die from conventional means. Secondly, the M-41A Pulse rifle comes equipped with a secondary fire grenade launcher, perfect for clearing a large number of incomings. Therefore, the Pulse Rifle is one of your best friends.

Motion Detector - Not what you would call a conventional weapon, the motion detector still served as a marine's best defense against incoming hordes of sneaking aliens. The only downside to this essential item was that it was absolutely terrifying to know something was coming up your rear when you couldn't see it. But more times than not, the motion detector meant life over death.

Aliens

Second Mouth - The quintessential Alien murdering tool. The second mouth, or secondary jaw, or whatever you want to call it is pure destruction. Like seriously, what else is it used for besides piercing the soft skin of a human or Predator's face? Does the Alien feed it's secondary jaw Bugles for the hell of it? Probably not. Therefore, the second mouth is only good for one thing: killin'.

Facehugger - The Facehugger is what gets the whole life cycle of the Alien species started. It also never misses. This is a weapon that has a 100% success rating. You get this guy stuck on your face and you're screwed. Hello Chestburster, goodbye you!

Acid Blood - How about a defense mechanism that activates when you get hurt? Yea, the Alien has that in the form of acid blood. Make close contact with an Alien and his acidic bodily fluids spill all over you, burning a hole through your armor and skin faster than a Taco Bell meal runs through your digestive track.

Predator

Plasmacaster (aka Shoulder Cannon) - Obviously we were going to include the Plasmacaster as one of the Predator's most badass weapons, and for good reason. It's a massive cannon mounted on his shoulder! He's like War Machine from Marvel Comics without having to overcompensate with heavy, bulky armor. The shoulder mounted cannon might just be the most recognizable Predator weapon out there, easily warranting its place on this list.

Remote Bomb - It's unfortunate that you can't use the Predator's self-destruct watch in any of these games, but the next best thing is the Remote Bombs that act like proximity mines. Throw these guys down on the floor, or stick them to the wall and just wait. Sooner or later some Alien or human whose strayed from the pack will trigger it and go boom. And you don't even have to be anywhere near the action to feel that sense of accomplishment for planting the remote bomb in that location and scoring a kill.

Wristblades - The good old fashioned wristblades are the main weapon of any skilled Predator, allowing the warrior to get in close and personal with its target. All it takes are a few slices and dices to allow easy removal of the victim's head and spine for quality trophy making.
