Original Xbox Titles Discontinued from Xbox Live

It's finally time to shelve that copy of Halo 2

And that's a wrap folks. As of April 15, 2010, original Xbox titles which feature Xbox Live support will no longer work with the service. This also includes titles that are now compatible with the Xbox 360. All must go!

"I want to start by saying this isn't a decision we made lightly," Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten said at the beginning of a letter he wrote to the Xbox Live community. "But after careful consideration, it is clear that this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox Live community."

So you know what this means, no more Halo 2 guys. You know, if you were still one of the few refusing to play either of the newer Halo offerings made for the Xbox 360, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. “Halo 2 has had an amazing run on Live, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games," laments Whitten for the Ol' Yeller style put-down.

And what about the games who don't have franchise continuations on the Xbox 360? Well, they're shit out of luck for the time being. So if you were still playing something like Star Wars: Battlefront II on Xbox Live you better start preparing yourself for the end of all things.

But Mr. Whitten closes out his statement with words of encouragement, ensuring the Xbox Live service is still yet to see its best of days.

"We’ll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox Live. I believe we’ll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn’t be more excited about what we have in store with “Project Natal” and Live. The Live community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it’s because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible."

Let us pause for a moment of silence...
