EA Sports officially resurrects the classic arcade baller

It's official. The greatest, most authentic basketball video game franchise is getting a new lease on life thanks to EA Sports. The new title, called EA Sports NBA JAM, will revive the classic franchise with "vintage" NBA JAM gameplay, also adding new features that "deliver a fresh new take" on the series. So don't expect this to be merely NBA Street retitled to take advantage of the diehard NBA JAM fans out there. However, jury is still out if we'll be able to play as celebs once again, or Horace Grant.

Also, and this is pretty important information, EA Sports NBA JAM will be exclusive to the Nintendo Wii, so sorry Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Players can expect EA Sports NBA JAM in 2010, but no official date is available at this time.

NBA JAM is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history,” said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. “Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”

Well that's pretty much all the information we have on the title as of right now. Or to be more specific, all the info EA Sports has supplied to us. There are no trailers or gameplay screenshots as of yet, so outside of knowing this game is part of the NBA JAM franchise, we got nothing. But we'd be lying if we said we weren't looking forward to having "Boom-shaka-laka" re-enter our everyday vocabulary. Viva la '90s!
