Looks like Dante's Inferno is at it again. After some awesome viral marketing with Mass: We Pray, the PR geniuses of EA have moved on to Facebook damnation. Launching today is the free "Go to Hell" app for Facebook that lets you banish friends, foes, family, products (everything Twilight please!) or other such materialistic goods to the nine circles of hell: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Gree, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud or Treachery in celebration of the upcoming Dante's Inferno video game.
Once there, users can choose to punish or absolve the sinners and see how the community reacts. The app also comes with a "Hell Browser" so you can keep track of everyone who's been damned thus far, and to what circle of hell they were sent to. So far, Megan Fox has been sent to Lust and Sarah Palin to Treachery for those curious. Also, iPhone users can expect a free app to hit the AppStore shortly.
“This app is awesome! Not only will it be a blast to see who the world sends to hell, but it’s also a great opportunity to take Dante’s notion of the 9 circles of hell and make it current and relevant for people who may not be familiar with the poem,” said executive producer Jonathan Knight. “Let the damning begin.”
Overall, this is a pretty big time waster. But the keyword here is "free." And for that, it's worth taking a look at. Even if it's just so you can let someone know how you truly feel about them through video game promotion.
