PS3 Getting 3D Update in Future

Soon Uncharted 2 could look realer than real

It was announced this morning at a company conference that Sony will start production on a number of 3D products for your home, including a new line of televisions and Blu-ray players. But more importantly, there are also plans to issue a firmware update for the Playstation 3 that will add 3D capabilities to the system by the end of fiscal year ending on March 31, 2011.

Also planned is 3D enabled software which, as of right now, has yet to be detailed. Whether that means Sony will start demanding game developers utilize this technology or previous titles like Uncharted 2 will be getting updates to make use of the 3D firmware update is unknown. Either way, pretty exicting. If I get to play Uncharted 2 in 3D at any time in the future it's going to have the same impact "Train Pulling Into A Station" had as the first motion picture back in 1895. Mind-blowing.

What should also be taken from this announcement is confirmation that Sony plans to back the Playstation 3 well into the future. As plans to implement such a major update so late into the console's lifespan is a good sign that we should expect the PS3 to be Sony's bread and butter for years to come. Which in turn saves us money on new hardware and shows that there is still a lot of power to harness in Sony's black monolith, or not so monolith like if you own a PS3 Slim.

No further details are available at this time, but as more comes in we will let you know. Scout's honor.
