5 PS2 Games Worth Porting to PS3

Titles that should follow God of War Collection's lead

The God of War Collection came out yesterday and as expected, is pretty awesome. If you've never played the first two God of War titles this is the definitive version to pick up and play before God of War III launches next year. And if you have already played them, there is still a lot to like about this anthology. Especially the graphics, which still look great in high-definition, even by today's standards. And while playing the GoW Collection it got us to thinking about what other PS2 titles could benefit from a new audience by being ported to a Blu-ray disc playable on all PS3 consoles, backwards compatible or not. Updated HD graphics wouldn't hurt these titles either! So we chose five titles we can't live without that are either classics from the PS2 era or will help promote an upcoming release, much like the God of War Collection does for God of War III.

Jak & Daxter Trilogy Collection

What it includes: Jak & Daxter, Jak II, Jak 3

Why release it: I don't know if you agree, but as far as I'm concerned the Jak & Daxter trilogy easily ranks as one of the greatest video game sagas ever made. While the original title, Jak & Daxter, might have been a kid friendly collect-a-thon, the subsequent sequels grew up in both gameplay and storytelling, delivering one of the most engrossing character driven stories in the history of gaming. Naughty Dog, the games' developers, have done a great job with the Uncharted franchise, but there isn't a day that goes by where I don't wish Jak & Daxter was on the Playstation 3 in some capacity. So if we aren't going to get a next gen Jak & Daxter game anytime soon, a collection of the original three titles making up the Precursor's Legacy saga will do just fine.

Metal Gear Solid Collection

What it includes: Metal Gear Solid (Twin Snakes), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Why release it: I could potentially just write "seriously..." in this section and that would be reason enough. But for you, I'll elaborate. Metal Gear Solid is the alpha and omega of epic soap opera storytelling in video games. It's like Highlander. Speaking for myself, the original MGS got me to buy a Playstation 1. And since then I've bought all future Sony systems because they have been the home to Kojima's brainchild masterpiece ever since (barring the release of Metal Gear Solid: Rising on Xbox 360). And even though the final pages of Solid Snake's story have been turned with the release of MGS4 over a year and a half ago, a collection of all three original titles would be much appreciated by fans of the series, as well as a great introduction for those who might have missed them the first time around. And while it might be more challenging, porting over the Nintendo Gamecube's version of the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, would be a welcome addition due to the game's updated graphics and its use of slow-mo bullet time that has been used excessively in all MGS sequels since Metal Gear Solid 2.
