PS3 Getting Facebook Today

Today's firmware update includes social network service

If you've been one of the people anticipating hitting up your friends and letting everyone know that you ate an apple for breakfast on Facebook through your Playstation 3, today is your lucky day. Firmware version 3.10 hits today, brings with it Facebook integration.

This firmware update will allow you to send updates to your Facebook wall indicating new trophies acquired as well as what you might have bought in the Playstation store. For the developers out there that want to take advantage of Facebook integration, the update also comes with "trigger points" so developers can draw focus to specific points in their games through Facebook. Sony says this update is "the first phase of a variety of new features to further connect and enhance the online social experiences of PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system owner."

However, with firmware v.3.10 there is still no sight of cross-game voice chat. One of the most sought-after features demanded by the Playstation 3 community. Looks like socializing through wall updates on Facebook is more important than being able to actually talk to your own friends. Maybe next update. We hope.

But if you're still curious how Facebook works on the PS3, check out the video below...
