Beatlesmania Invades Talk Shows

It's like Ed Sullivan all over again...but this time with plastic.

Odds are if you weren't in a comma on 9.9.09 then you probably heard of a little game called The Beatles: Rock Band hitting shelves. Now The Beatles are a big deal, no doubt about it, as they changed the landcape of how people listen to and enjoy music, but who would have thought a video game based around them would have garnered this much attention. But as it turned out, Beatlesmania was once again everywhere, hitting every major news outlet in the country due to the simultaneous release of The Beatles: Rock Band and remastered editions of every Beatles studio album. There was no escaping it.  The Beatles were talked about on the radio, they were talked about on the internet, and they were definitely talked about on the television, with various talk shows having their anchors pick up some plastic guitars and sit behind a plastic drum kit to put their knowledge of The Beatles catalogue to the test. With mostly hilarious results.

So to join in on the fun we here at Crave decided to compile a few of our favorite clips from NBC's Today Show and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, as well as a clip from CBS' The Early Show, and share them with you here. But be warned, you might not see "A Hard Day's Night" the same way after you see Kathie Lee Gifford singing it.

Here is that clip of Kathie Lee from The Today Show doing just about everything wrong when singing The Beatles. If murdering a song is simply singing it off key with a cracking voice, then the only way to describe Kathie Lee's rendition of  "A Hard Day's Night" would be to call it a gang raping. (this clip is pretty long, the butchering happens around the 6 minute mark)

However, Conan O''Brien's venture into the realm of Rock Band was much more enjoyable to watch as he had guest Dhani Harrison, the late George Harrison's son and instigator for The Beatles: Rock Band even existing in the first place, chatting with the ginger irish-man about the inception of the game and even jamming with Conan and two of the Tonight Show band members to "Birthday" from the game. Take a look.

And finally we have a clip from The Early Show also playing "A Hard Day's Night" and fairing much better than the Today Show crew.
