The hype train is something that all projects rely on. Movies, video games, comics - they all strive to create that insane buzz on internet forums and media outlets that will generate so much interest in their product, that it simply explodes on the scene upon release. However, often times the hype proves to be too much, and the only result is the beautiful disaster that is a hype train derailment. These are their stories.
5. Too Human

Too Human gets to be part of the illustrious group of games that had been in development hell for eons, but was eventually released. Originally slated as an original PlayStation game in 1999, the game was moved to the Nintendo GameCube with developer Silicon Knights' partnership with Nintendo - which gave us the stellar Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and the Metal Gear Solid remake Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, but no Too Human.
It wasn't until years later in 2005 that Silicon Knights announced the game was still in the works, now for the Xbox 360, and slated for release around Christmas 2006. An by Christmas 2006, they obviously meant August of 2008.
The game mixes Norse mythology with science fiction, and was even planned as a trilogy. Apparently, developers have not learned much since Advent Rising, and planning a trilogy of games before a successful first installment is simply a bad idea. The game released to much criticism, with complaints ranging from the game lacking depth, controls being broken, game length, and repetitive art design. To name a few.
Essentially, it boils down to nearly ten years of development time and build up, and releasing as a sub-standard genre game. While there are plenty of games that come out below expectations, not many deliver as much disappointment as those ten years in the making.
