E3 2009: Best in Show

The show-stoppers of this year's event

So you've read about the worst, now let's get on with the best E3 2009 had to offer...

5. The Beatles: Rock Band

Not really an announcement, more like an unveiling, The Beatles: Rock Band was the perfect way to kick off E3 2009. The introduction cinematic, produced in part by Pete Candeland of Passion Pictures with the help of animator Robert Valley and background visualist Alberto Mielgo, touched on all the major eras of the classic rock band and had a visual flair that would make any fan of the Beatles pop the largest boner they've ever had by the time the game's title appeared on screen. The songs chosen were also some of the best examples of the Beatles' diverse musical catalogue.

But that wasn't all Microsoft had in store for us. Shortly after the introduction cinematic wrapped, out came Ringo Starr and Sir. Paul McCartney to hype the game. And even though they stayed on stage for roughly two minutes, due in most part to Yoko Ono's presence, it was still great to see them advocating a video game, even if it was only because it's a game based on them.

And sure, The Beatles: Rock Band is nothing but another Rock Band spin-off title, but this is the god damn Beatles we are talking about here! This game will produce nothing but smiles, guaranteed. And all it took to ease any doubt in our minds was a amazing two minute video and some guest appearances by two of the most influential people on the planet.
