E3 2009: Worst in Show

Five announcements that made us die inside

E3 is like Christmas for the hardcore gamers. We awake every morning, trembling with excitement for what the video game gods will rain down upon us. However, unfortunately, there are those announcements and demonstrations that ultimately form the equivalent of coal in your stocking on Christmas morning. This list hopes to compile the biggest wastes of time that we had to endure at E3 2009. I'll be living in a bunker to avoid the fallout, some of these choices are sure to offend.

5. Twitter on Xbox LIVE

The mere mention of the words "tweet" and "Twitter" make the phlem from the deepest depths of my body formulate behind my lips, waiting for its chance to spill onto my keyboard below. I will not deny that Twitter has its advantages when it is used appropriately - say, at events like E3 or GDC, where readers can communicate easily with the journalists on the show floor. But, when Microsoft announced that Xbox LIVE would become compatible with the micro-blogging site, I damn near shit a brick. Could these fools not see what can of worms they are opening? Giving the majority of the LIVE community the ability to tweet is like giving a recovering alcoholic a bottle of Johnny Walker and telling them they can have a sip and then pour the rest down the drain, it's just not going to happen that way.

Can you see it? I envision a digital dystopia full of 160 character degradation pointed at one another's online opponents, with the complete debauchery of the English language as an added bonus. A world where n00b's will be called out to the slaughter, one tweet after the next. But seriously, is Twitter not already available everywhere else? You know, like our phones? Will we ever really be in a situation where we beat a game and then need to tweet it? Or, I guess if you simply MUST tweet about it, can it not wait until you are on your computer (which, let's be honest here - if the thought even crosses your mind, a computer is not very far away from you at any point during the day)?

Facebook was also announced as becoming compatible with LIVE, but that's a different story. Everyone loves stalking people they don't care about.
