May Gaming Guide

Your wallet will be barfing up some money this month.

A new month means a new Gaming Guide with new options for you to spend your money on. This month has quite a few A-list titles sure to make a dent in your wallet. But spend carefully, next month is just as rough...

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

System: Multi-platform
Release Date: 5/1/09

The first game to release in the month of May, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has already been played by our own Dante Maddox who raved about how much fun it was--perfectly capturing the spirit of the character and building on the narrative of the film to really stand on its own two feet. This looks to be a film tie-in game that actually has some merit. And let's face it, it can't be worse than the actual film.

Crysis Maximum Edition

System: PC
Release Date: 5/5/2009

Sure this game isn't new but when a bundle comes out for only $40 that includes three games, we take notice. So it's time to do some specing to see if your rig can run it, because if it can, Crysis Maximum Edition is a steal of a deal for those that missed out the first go-round.

Patapon 2

System: Sony PSP
Release Date: 5/5/09

If there was one game to get me to the store and pick up a Sony PSP, Patapon 2 would be it. I never got a chance to play the original but the raving reviews are already coming in for part two and it looks even better than the first. With a super slick art style, addictive, easy to pick up game-play, as well as some great tribal tunes, Patapon 2 could be the perfect game to play on the go. You owe it to yourself to pick up this game if you already have Sony's portable system.

Punch-Out!!

System: Nintendo Wii
Release Date: 5/18/09

Punch-Out!! returns to Nintendo with an updated look but the same addicting game-play fans of the series have come to expect. This new version looks like the ultimate tribute to the NES and SNES classics and will surely get you playing your dusty old Wii. It's time to begin training.

Bionic Commando

System: PS3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 5/19/09

Speaking of retro classics that are finally getting their due on next-gen consoles, Bionic Commando will be swinging to store shelves on the 19th of May. A direct sequel to the NES original, Bionic Commando gives you control of Nathan "RAD" Spencer and his huge bionic arm. The dude must be pretty cool, or at least stuck in the 90's with a nickname like "RAD." But whatever, it's not like the Bionic Commando series had strived for realistic names from the get-go, with the original title's lead character being named "Super Joe." The game also includes a multiplayer component which you can try out now by downloading the demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

UFC 2009: Undisputed

System: PS3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 5/19/09

Developed by Yuke's Osaka, and published by THQ, UFC 2009: Undisputed marks the first official UFC title released since 2004's Sudden Impact. The game includes over 100 fighter personalities, 80 of which are fighters from all five weight classes. A playable demo is already on both the Xbox Marketplace and Playstation Network, so if you're curious about the game, give the demo a shot which lets you do a tutorial and a single exhibition match between Mauricio Rua and Chuck Lidell.

Terminator: Salvation

System: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: 5/19/09

Terminator: Salvation looks to be a pretty badass movie. But how will the game fair? I'm kind of disappointed that Christian Bale didn't lend his voice and likeness to the video game adaptation of the film, but beggars can't be choosers. The game does, however, offer a co-op campaign which is a great way to extend re-playability. But in my experience, Terminator video-games are rarely good. They almost have a track record that competes with Batman games. Remember Terminator: Dawn of Fate? Yea....

InFamous

System: PS3
Release Date: 5/26/09

InFamous looks like a really fun sandbox game. Sucker Punch's superhero epic is also only available on Playstation 3, which is sure to make Xbox fanboys jealous. I love how main character, Cole McGarth, has the ability to run up walls and basically become a parkour master. I guess they teach that kind of stuff in bike messenger school these days. And if that wasn't enough, you'll also get access to the multiplayer beta of Uncharted 2, another hotly anticipated Sony exclusive, with the purchase of InFamous.

Fuel

System: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: 5/26/09

From the makers of Colin McRae: DiRT and Race Driver: GRID comes Fuel, Codemasters latest racing game. You'll be able to race with dune-buggies, motorcycles, dirt bikes, trucks, cars, and 4-wheelers, all while on genuinely beautiful backdrops. As for uniqueness, Fuel has a 5,000 square mile play-field, allowing racers to really feel like they can go anywhere, and do anything.

Damnation

System: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: 5/26/09

Another title made by Codemasters, Damnation is a merger of western and industrial future influences but looks to deliver a plot a bit more serious than Wild, Wild West. Though I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see another giant mechanical spider. But check out that trailer above to see some funny looking robots wearing bowler caps.
