Lego Rock Band, Really?

This is why we can't have nice things

The dead horse has officially been kicked with the announcement that Harmonix will team up with Warner Bros. Interactive to produce "Lego Rock Band", a family-friendly entry into the popular rhythm-action series... As if all the Jonas Brothers and Spongebob Squarepants DLC tracks weren't "family friendly" enough.

So far the only songs that've been confirmed are:

  1. Blur: Song 2
  2. Carl Douglas: Kung Fu Fighting
  3. Europe: The Final Countdown
  4. Good Charlotte: Boys and Girls
  5. Pink: So What

Obviously this game is not for adults, which sort of goes against Warner Bros. Interactive's marketing strategy for all of their previous Lego games (which was to tell us that the games are are not just for kid)s. It's for this reason that I almost suspect that this has to be some sort of a prank, because it just doesn't make any business sense. There are too many unanswered questions... Just what have Legos got to do with rocking? How would Legos be incorporated as anything other than a graphical reskin of a pre-existing game? Does anyone even look at the characters on-screen while playing Rock band to begin with?

Harmonix and WBI are going to have a lot of explaing to do the next time they go accusing the Guitar Hero franchise of "selling out" as Harmonix is so apt to do...

And with that, here are a couple of pics:
