The Jak & Daxter series easily ranks as one of my all-time favorite gaming franchises. I would be so bold as to put it right alongside Metal Gear Solid, which is saying a lot coming from me. The Jak & Daxter titles are also responsible for securing Naughty Dog as one of my favorite developers. And while I absolutely love the Uncharted series, I can’t help but yearn for a PlayStation 3 version of Jak & Daxter. It also comes as no surprise to me that I’m not alone.
While speaking with Game Informer about Naughty Dog’s past, present and future, co-president Evan Wells discussed how the studio would love to revisit the Jak & Daxter series, it’s just a matter of finding the time to do so. You know, they have been kind of busy making the Uncharted series Sony’s primo franchise over the last few years.
“What I hear a lot recently [from fans] is to make another Jak & Daxter game,” said Wells. “My answer always is we’d love to do it, there’s a lot of love for the franchise and it has a special place in our hearts for sure, but we’re sort of heads down, working on one game at a time now and are focusing on Uncharted, but we’d love to go back to it at some point.”
And as a fan, I would love to revisit that universe with the incredible technical power of the PlayStation 3 backing it up. The Jak & Daxter games were already technical marvels on the PS2, I can’t even begin to imagine how good Naughty Dog could make those characters and worlds look on a PS3.
Oh, and while we wait for a next-gen Jak & Daxter, you guys can at least release an HD collection of the Jak & Daxter trilogy to tide us over. Just saying.
