We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we're playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn't new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that? So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…
Please feel free to sound off below to let us know what your gaming plans are this weekend.
Joey Davidson: Do I really even need to tell you? Minecraft. The game has become my free time waster. I’ll play other titles, sure, but I always find myself booting this block breaker up whenever I’ve got bouts of free time between writing and real life. Honestly, can’t say this enough, Minecraft is one of the best games ever made.
Also, I’ll be trying Ms. Splosion Man out this weekend. I’ll pretend that I was in a back alley when a man approached me, opened his trench coat (settle down) and offered up a code. Yes. That’s exactly how it went down. I played this sequel at PAX East several months back and absolutely dug it then. Hopefully that trend continues. The title is supposedly bigger, better paced and built with even more ridiculous mechanics. That formula? I love it.
Alex Keen: I am off to the beach for the week so most of my gaming will be on an iPod, on a game board, and maybe on our laptop. I haven’t gamed on the PC in quite a while and who knows how that will take.
Before then, I too will be playing Ms. Splosion Man. My receipt of a code was much less back-alley-like, but still hilarious in execution. The dudes at Twisted Pixel sent out my code with two Omaha Steaks. Sure, real journalists would see such gifts as a horrendous attempt to sway my opinion. I see it as a dead cow that deserves to be eaten because it sacrificed it’s life for me. The game is tough and fun… so, I hope Joey and Erik have a blast while I am away!
Erik Norris: Like Joey and Alex, I, too, have a Ms. ‘Splosion Man itch that needs scratchin’. It depresses me a little that I never really played the original ‘Splosion Man, which did just make the ranks of our 10 best downloadable games. But now that Ms. ‘Splosion Man is here, I can dive balls deep (or is it ovaries deep?) into Twisted Pixel’s…um…. twisted world. You know, come to think of it, I’ve always preferred the female versions of certain titles. For example, Ms. Pac-man is far better than the original, in my opinion. It has to be the pretty, pink bow.
I also plan to put my PlayStation 3 through its paces this weekend with more Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and the Resistance Greatest Hits Dual Pack. I’m probably halfway through A Crack in Time and still loving pretty much everything about the game. The humor, gameplay and story are all top notch. As for Resistance, I never played either of the first two titles in the series (sorry!). That’s why I’m picking up the Dual Pack that just released, so I can prepare for Resistance 3 later this year.
Mike White: I feel a little left out that I didn’t get in on the Ms. ‘Splosion Man action. That being said, I’m in Florida for the week so my gaming is slightly different than usual. Normally I’d be enjoying my free time with a keyboard and mouse. This week I got my kicks with a fishing rod and a bottle of tequila. If catching fish was the main objective, my side quest was dodging the five people throwing up over the side of the boat.
Back on land I’ve grilled said fish, played lots of Bocce ball and finally spent some time with this new thing called mobile gaming apps. I was overwhelmed when I was able to get Plants Vs. Zombies for free from Amazon. Now I’m hooked and searching for more. I’d love to find another tower defense game to play but the free versions of most games are simply terrible. Angry Birds, Unblock Me and Words With Friends will have to get me through the rest of the weekend before I head back to Delaware.
Anyone know where I can get a good Bocce set?
