Christian Police Associations Looked to Ban The Darkness II

Seems they missed something, though…

The Darkness II

And here comes news that was too good not to share.

We had a chance to go hands-on with The Darkness II early this year at PAX, and we had another chance to go eyes-on with the game in June at E3.

Pencils down; that means we've seen The Darkness II twice. We've enjoyed it for around two or three hours. Since then, we've covered it.

It was surprising to read, then, that there is a group of Christian Police Associations looking to ban the game. Well, not so much surprising that a game as gruesome and violent as The Darkness II has been seekers, but surprising because of the reason for the desired disallowance of sale.

The heads of the International Christian Police Fellowship sent a letter to the game's developers as well as international politicians in order to inform them that the group disapproved of The Darkness II and games like it. According to that letter, one of the big reasons for slamming the game came from the fact that it alters the way youth perceive police.

Put it together from their perspective: slaughter cops, get shot at by cops, this must mean cops are evil.

The problem? 2K Games responds:

"Reported stories regarding police officers in The Darkness II were erroneous. To be clear, there are no police officers in the game."

The folks at GamePro sum it up best: "That's that, then."

We concur.

The Darkness II releases on February 10th, 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms.
