Today, Sony made the announcement that all Battlefield 3 expansion packs will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 for a week’s period. So if you want to get in on the ground floor of all the new content DICE rolls out for the title after the game’s launch on October 25th, then you might have to consider picking it up on PS3.
This timed exclusivity deal between EA Games, DICE and Sony begins with Battlefield 3’s first DLC pack, “Back to Karkand,” which will release later this year. The “Back to Karkand” add-on brings with it four beloved multiplayer maps from Battlefield 2, as well as new weapons, vehicles, in-game dog tags, persistence and trophies.
For Sony, this is a huge deal they’ve secured. For years now, Microsoft has had the stranglehold on Call of Duty map packs through their timed-exclusivity deal with Activision. This Battlefield 3 exclusivity deal, however short, will help balance out the scales for Sony. Why else would they secure a deal like this?
And in other Battlefield 3-related news, don’t forget that you can jump aboard the Battlefield 3 beta starting September 29th. The beta will be available for free for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, through the platforms’ various online stores.
