Honestly, who didn’t see this coming? With the recent trend of developers adopting the “Season Pass” business model for DLC, I think we all knew in the back of our minds that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception would carry on the trend. Sony has now confirmed that is indeed the plan via the official PlayStation Blog.

Everyone say hi to the “Fortune Hunters’ Club” DLC program. By buying into this “club,” you’ll be locking yourself into the first four multiplayer map packs and the first three multiplayer skin packs for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. A Fortune Hunters’ Club membership will cost you $24.99 up front, but the grand total of these items would be roughly $45.00. So, you’re saving yourself around a twenty spot. You’ll even get a free Fortune Hunters’ XMB theme for pre-ordering right now.

Uncharted 3 joins the likes of L.A. Noire, Mortal Kombat, Gears of War 3 and all EA Sports titles in using a “Season Pass” to entice players into buying downloadable content before we even know what the content is exactly. Pretty soon every publisher and developer will be using this model to leech money away from consumers before their game even ships. For the titles listed previously, we’re OK with it because they're all generally robust titles with some extensive DLC planned, but what happens when games like Kinectimals start offering a Season Pass? God, we’re terrified of that future.
