Divinity II: Ego Draconis First Impressions

New action/RPG looks promising.

The other day we got invited down to Beverly Hills to get a first look at the new Action/RPG Divinity II: Ego Draconis from Larian Studios. We didn’t get a chance to play the game but we saw several levels and got a good sense of how the game was coming along. The builds we saw were for both the Xbox 360 and the PC versions and it looks like both games will ship on the same day after all.

My first impression of the game was how massive everything looked. In other words, the world you operate in has a scale to it that other games don’t quite capture. The opening load screen tells you that the developers took their time with fleshing out even the minutest detail. The rolling grasslands look lush and even the air feels crisp.

The story of Divinity II is a bit complicated in the sense that you are starting fresh with a brand new character. The main character is of course highly customizable which has become an RPG staple. On that note it’s important to point out that most, if not all, of the RPG staples are included in the game, including a robust dialogue system that offers a new feature where the player can read their targets thoughts at the price of experience. This system dramatically changes the way dialogue works and its importance. It also affected the way the experience system works which makes sense.
