After play testing Dungeon Fighter Online (DFO) a few weeks ago I’ve been itching to play the full game. That day isn’t quite here yet, but I’ve been invited into the closed beta test to hold me over until the game is finished.
So far the game is everything I hoped it would be and more, the graphics are spot on for the genre and the sound is incredible. The frame rate is also really good and the server supports a bunch of sprites on the screen at one time. The game has an arcade feel to it with all the MMO elements you could ask for to boot.
I’ve been playing as a Priest, but don’t misunderstand, this Priest could start for the Steelers and carries around a huge cross that he uses to bludgeon evil to death! If you spent hours playing games like Streets of Rage or Final Fight then this is the game you have been waiting for maybe all your life.
I’ve been told that Nexon might be working on a controller application that would make this game perfect but I have no new news on that just yet, only that they want to do it. If the game had a joystick I might lose my job for playing too much. All kidding aside you should really be looking forward to this FREE game when it comes out.
The story is pretty involved and there are literally tons of quests to do right from jump, and the map is easy to follow and navigate. To be honest it’s hard to tell what is not finished with the exception of the dialogue boxes having the text wrap off, other than that the game looks and feels ready to ship. If I did have one complaint (and this is very minor) its that I can’t seem to figure out how to change my guys looks. I’m not an MMO player and haven’t yet grown accustomed to navigating the menus, but they are pretty user friendly and I figure with a little more time with the game I can get it.
Parents, this is a game that you should have no problem letting your kids play, while there is some violence its cartoon violence and that’s ok. There is a small amount of blood but its cartoon blood and that’s ok too. Sorry I’m kidding again.
We will bring you further updates on the closed beta as the release date for DFO draws closer.
