Borderlands 2 is a celebration of everything that's awesome, so I ask you – what's more awesome than pirates? The answer is nothing (unless you're one of those perverse individuals who favours ninjas), and developers Gearbox Software has recognised this, announcing the impending release of Borderlands 2's first campaign expanding DLC, entitled 'Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty'.
The DLC will see players teaming up with Captain Scarlett on an adventure across the deserts of Pandora, battling sand worms on the new hover vehicle (pictured below), that looks very reminiscent of the Tattooine sand skiff seen in Return of the Jedi. As this is Gearbox Software we're talking about, we should only assume that this is no happy coincidence.
According to information leaked yesterday, the DLC will include a new head for each class, hovercrafts with 3 types of weaponry (Harpoons, Rockets, and Saws), new enemy types that drop crystals that can then be traded in for high level gear, 7 all new zones (including Salt Flats from the first game) and the first boss with a raid lockout.
Speaking of the new environment in which the DLC takes place, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said: "You can sense the pirate theme across the landscape, even though there's no water. It's all dried up. It feels more like Tatooine than an ocean. These bandits have really embraced the pirate lifestyle, and there's the legend of a treasure. That kicks off this whole adventure that the players can go on."
Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is set to be released on October 16th for $9.99, or you can get it as part of the season pass for $29.99, which also includes three more expansion packs.
