The Razer Sphex

The perfect mousing surface?

One of my biggest complaints about PC gaming is the damn mouse and keyboard controls. My hands were built for a game pad and the keyboard just wasn’t cutting it. Well, that may be changing thanks to this cool new accessory from Razer. The Sphex Desktop Skin is more than a simple mouse pad, it fits snug on your desk and provides a extra large tracking surface for even the most intense first person shooters.

I tried my hand at Combat Arms for the test of this product and could immediately feel the difference. The surface is textured and you can feel when you’re getting close to the edge of the surface. I found it very easy to rotate my camera and shoot things to death. I also tried my hand at Sword of the New World an MMO that requires a lot of mouse work and the surface performed admirably.

One side of the pad is partially adhesive using static so you don’t have to worry about the pad shifting on you in the middle of a fight. My laser mouse tracks perfectly on it and picks no dust. I’m used to wanting the throw my mouse when I play games on the PC but not this time.

So what about non gamers? Trust me general PC users will get a kick out of a mousing surface that never moves and is large enough for you to easily work on a two monitor system. I know this accessory is designed for gamers, but this bad boy will please just about anyone who uses a keyboard and mouse. The surface is ultra thin (0.24mm) and will fit in with any desktop surface.  It’s stylish with a small logo in the corner, nothing about it screams, “I’m a gamer!” Instead it just says that you know a thing or two about comfort and control.

Trust me, this is one of those products that you never know you miss until you try it. If you’re any kind of PC gamer then you certainly need this little accessory, if you work on a PC all day then this is also a welcome addition to your gear.
