Alicia Machado is a Venezuelan actress and former Miss Universe 1996. She is known for starring in several TV series in Latin America including "El Pantera" and "Hasta que el dinero nos separe."
Yoseph Alicia Machado Fajardo was born in Maracay, Venezuela on December 6, 1976. The daughter of a Spanish mother and Cuban father, she was raised in Venezuela due to her parents fleeing Cuba after the fall of the Machado regime. Her father was a relative of former Cuban dictator, Gerardo Machado.
Alicia spent her youth modeling, and by 1995 she not only won her first official title as Miss Yaracuy, but went on to take Miss Venezuela as well. The next year, she beat Taryn Mansell for the Miss Universe 1996 crown in Las Vegas. However, she was nearly replaced shortly after the competition due to gaining too much weight. The Miss Universe Organization nearly passed the crown onto Mansell, but fortunately Alicia was able to slim back down in time.
Since her reign as Miss Universe, Alicia managed to make a name for herself as an actress. She was first cast in the Venevision soap opera "Samantha" as the lead character in 1998. From there, she went on to star on series such as "El Pantera" and "Hasta que el dinero nos separe" after spending much of her early career as a TV personality on numerous Spanish series and specials. In February 2006, Alicia again made headlines concerning her previous title as Miss Universe after posing in Playboy's Mexican edition, making her the only former Miss Universe to pose nude for the magazine.
In June 25, 2008, Alicia gave birth to a daughter named Dinorah Valentina. While it was initially speculated that the father of the child was druglord Gerardo Alvarez Vazquez, Alicia officially cleared up those rumors by announcing the father was actually Mexican businessman Rafael Hernandez.
