Bio

Born Alycia Jasmin Debnam-Carey in July of 1993 in Sydney, New South Wales to a television writer mother (Leone Carey), Alycia would start a life in the performing arts at a young age. In 2011, she graduated high school from Newtown High School of Performing Arts in percussion, studying a total of 10 years in classical percussion and winning Premier awards for her abilities in the arts.

Debnam-Carey, however, started in with acting at a young age as well. In 2003, she was part of the highly revered short film, "Martha's New Coat," followed by a few small Australian TV roles on "McLeod's Daughters," "Dream Life" as well as the short films, "Jigsaw Girl," "At the Tattooist" and "The Branch." Shortly after a failed 2010 pilot and more guest starring in TV, Debnam-Carey made the move to Los Angeles in 2012.

At age 18, Debnam-Carey traveled to the U.S. for the first time and became the youngest actress on a six-part documentary about Australian actors coming to America. After only a few weeks in Los Angeles, she was offered roles on The CW pilot "The Carrie Diaries" as the lead and for her first American feature film, "The Devil's Hand." Still in 2012, Carey became a finalist for the Heath Ledger Scholarship for Australians in film, shortly after losing her role on the CW series.

By 2014, Debnam-Carey was back in film in a found-footage feature, "Into the Storm," co-starring Richard Armitage and Sarah Wayne Callies about a series of tornadoes to hit Oklahoma. She then returned to The CW on season two of "The 100" as Commander Lexa. She developed an on-screen romance with another woman, played by Eliza Taylor, before becoming an adored guest actress, winning an E! award for Best Guest Star, as well as Best Kiss. At the 2015 Comic-Con, it was announced that she would return for the show's third season to many fans' approval.

Just before that in late 2014, Debnam-Carey was announced as one of four main leads, Alicia Clark, to the sister series of AMC's zombie drama, "The Walking Dead." The show, much like its companion, takes place in a zombie-ridden city, only on the west coast of Los Angeles. The show has already been picked up for a second season and will likely meet up in the end with the remnants of the original "The Walking Dead" cast.

Debnam-Carey is set to appear in a new feature film at the start of 2016, titled "Friend Request."
