Annet Mahendru is an actress probably best known for her role as Nina on “The Americans.” She has also appeared on “The Blacklist,” “Escape From Tomorrow,” “2 Broke Girls,” among other projects.
Her father is an East Indian journalist and professor, while her mother is a Russian businesswoman and artist.

She knows an astounding six languages, and spent some of her early years living in Afghanistan, Russia and Europe. “I always knew I’d have to do something with languages. That was my gift and I wanted to somehow affect the world on a national level. Originally I wanted to be a diplomat.” She added, “I remember my mom and I getting into the bathtub as the bombs were going off because it was the safest place in the apartment. I was told it was ‘fireworks’ and I believe it and it was sort of fun sitting in the tub with my Mom.”
She said, “We moved a lot. I went to a lot of different schools and completely different cultures, so that’s my background.”
She has participated in competitive chess and earned a brown belt in Karate. She has also studied classical Indian dance, Bharantanatyam. “I think I got into karate because I wanted some action after years of playing chess.”
She moved to the United States when she was 13 and went to high school in New York and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at St. John’s University. She then enrolled at NYU for a Master’s degree in Global Affairs. She subsequently dropped out and headed to Los Angeles, where she studied at the improv Groundlings.
