Bio

Berenice Bejo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 7, 1976 to parents, Miguel and Silvia Bejo. Her father was a director in the Argentinean film industry, while her mother was a lawyer. Both parents were anti-military, which eventually became dangerous after several of Silvia's partners were killed for their beliefs. Therefore, when Berenice was just three years old, her family moved to France, where her and her sister could have a shot at a better life.

Like most actresses, Berenice got her start in acting in short films. Her first was called "Pain perdu," a French film released in 1993. From there, she was able to move on to French television, first starring in the TV movie, "Histoires d'hommes," and eventually landing a recurring gig on the series, "Un et un font six," where she played a character by the name of Sophie from 1997 to 1999. She then followed that up by booking another recurring role on "Sauvetage" in 2000. By 2001, Berenice made her U.S. film debut in the Heath Ledger film, "A Knight's Tale," where she played the sidekick to Shannyn Sossamon's character. She then went on to star in "24 Hours in the Life of a Woman" in 2002.

It was in 2006 that Berenice starred in "OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies," a film which was directed by her soon to be husband, Michel Hazanavicius. The two were wed soon after and have since had two children. Michel Hazanavicius would go on to direct Berenice in several films, including 2011's Oscar-winning "The Artist," which also nabbed a nomination for Berenice for Best Actress. She went on to win the Cesar Award for Best Actress for her performance as well.
