Erika Christensen has been gracing TV and film screens since she was a teenager. If you've seen "Traffic" or "Swimfan," then you know what we're talking about. (She was named one of People magazine's 'Breakthrough Stars of 2001.') Others may know her from her role on "Parenthood." You'll soon see her in the HBO film "Confirmation" about the Clarence Thomas hearings.
Erika Christensen is a beautiful blend of Norwegian, Danish, English, German, Scottish, Welsh and Irish ancestry. In an interview with Buzzfeed, she said her family moved from her hometown of Seattle to Los Angeles because of the weather and job opportunities for her parents. "Certainly I don’t think my parents could have necessarily predicted that I would have wanted to be an actor. But [Los Angeles] is the land of opportunity."
As for how she broke into acting, Erika said, "I was going to school with a girl who was an actor. And I was, like, 'No, I want to be an actor.' I told my parents I wanted an agent, and they decided to let me have a go at it. Then I started working right away. I was 12."
Her first acting gig was for a McDonald's commercial. And for how she approaches acting, using 'Swimfan' as an example, she said, "It’s still my philosophy now to really disconnect. The lines between the character and me are so distinct that I let her do whatever the hell she wants to do, and I go on with my life. And whatever she does is not my fault."
A bit of trivia: Erika Christensen's favorite place is Griffith Park or St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. “When you see something so beautiful, so overwhelming, you cry. To me, that’s what spirituality is.” Her favorite movie is "Fight Club," and her favorite quote is "To infinity and beyond!"
Amazingly, she said about her body: “I feel like I’ve looked 12 my whole life. So hopefully, some day I won’t look like an old 12-year-old, I’ll look like a woman.” Oh, Erika, we very much disagree.
Erika Christensen resides in Los Angeles and is currently engaged to Cole Maness, a cyclist.
