Her stage name "Fergie" is also a nickname that her grandfather and father carried, as well. Fergie is a mix of Scottish, Mexican, Irish and Native American descent.
Fergie attended Mesa Robles Middle School and Glen A. Wilson High School and studied dance. While a student she was a cheerleader, straight A-student, Girl Scout and spelling bee champion. She was also a child actor, providing her voice for Sally in made-for-TV "Peanuts" cartoons. She also starred on the Disney variety TV show "Kids Incorporated." Fergie recalled, "I was embarrassed about it [by the time] I was 14, because it was uncool."
However, when she turned 18, Fergie admitted that she rebelled against her Catholic upbringing went on a sex and drugs spree.
Fergie was part of the female trio Wild Orchid and released their debut album in 1997. A year later they released their second album. Though they made a third album, the record label didn't release it and Fergie eventually left the group. Fergie revealed that she during this time developed an addition to crystal meth. She later told Time, "It was the hardest boyfriend I ever had to break up with." She added, "I wasn't liking who I was" and that she had once spent eight hours talking to a hamper. Her mother helped her get rehabilitated and from there the best was yet to come.
The Black Eye Peas invited Fergie to try out and she and the band clicked and the rest is history. They released "Elephunk," and later "Monkey Business," "The E.N.D." and "The Beginning." Fergie said, "The Peas bring out the silly side of me, the tomboy."
Fergie released her own solo album "The Dutchess" in 2006, which had six hits.
Aside from singing, Fergie is a part owner of the Miami Dolphins Football League, and has appeared in the films "Poseidon," "Grindhouse" and "Nine." Fergie also appeared in People's Most Beautiful Issue.
In 2009, Fergie married Josh Duhamel in Malibu. She said, "I've been in a lot of relationships that were exciting but unhealthy, very Sid-and-Nancy-esque. I wanted somebody I could count on." After Josh's alleged indiscretions, Fergie said, "When you go through difficult times, it really makes you stronger as a unit, as a partnership. It does for us, anyways. Our love today is a deeper love, definitely."
In May 2010, she launched her debut fragrance "Outspoken."
