Uma Karuna Thurman is a model and actress probably best known for her roles in the Quentin Tarantino movies “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill.” She is notably not active on social media.
Uma Thurman was named after a Hindu goddess (her father teaches Buddhist Studies.) Uma is a mix of English, Irish, Scottish, German, Swedish and Danish ancestry.
Uma grew up in Boston “in a mostly Buddhist environment” where her father was a professor at Amherst. Her mother is a psychotherapist, and her godfather was Timothy Leary. By the time she was 13, she was already 5’ 10” tall. She described herself, “I was not particularly bright, I wasn’t very athletic, I was a little too tall, odd, funny looking, I was just really weird as a kid.” She added in a separate interview that “I was not classically attractive. I’ve always been sort of an acquired taste.”
Uma Thurman dropped out of school when she was 15 and moved to New York to pursue a career in acting. Her breakthrough came in the film “Dangerous Liaisons," but it was “Pulp Fiction” in 1994 that made her famous, as well as earning her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Supposedly, she turned down the title role of “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider." She was originally cast for the part of Eowyn in the “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” Other roles followed, including parts in “Beautiful Girls” and “Gattaca,” where she met future husband Ethan Hawke.
Uma Thurman has stayed out of the spotlight and that might be explained by her quote, “I’m very happy at home. I love to just hang out with my daughter, I love to work in my garden. I’m not a gaping hole of need.” She generally only takes roles that allow her to shoot in New York where she lives with her family.

As for acting, Uma Thurman said “the purest relationship I have ever had, aside from with my children, is with my work. Whatever you give, it gives you double back.”
Even with her fame, she said she doesn’t feel famous and described herself as “Tall, sandy blonde, with sort of blue eyes, skinny in places, fat in others. An average gal.” Uma Thurman has three children, and she loves to travel. She is divorced from Ethan Hawke and Gary Oldman.
