Are We There Yet?: Tree Camping

Just don't fall out of bed.

I saw an incredible article this week and just had to share it with you guys. Have you ever heard of tree camping? It’s not a pastime that sounds like one thing but is completely different – tree camping is just as it sounds: camping in trees.

There are a surprising number of places that offer the unique experience of an afternoon of monkey-climbing in the trees or spending the night in the treetops. Most outdoor adventure companies will guide you on day-trips through the forest, but at other places like Pacific Tree Climbing, you can take it to the extreme and, after a day of play, you can snooze in a monstrous Douglas fir tree (which can be as tall as 250-300 feet) in a comfortable and safe tree hammock.

Most places don’t require any previous climbing experience and can cater to beginners, so you have no excuse not to let loose and live out your boyish inclinations of climbing trees and getting dirty.
Believe it or not, you can even buy your own “tree” hammock in places like Clark Jungle Hammock, which are made with water-resistant material, come with a “weathershield” to protect you from the elements, and boasts a no-tip design so you can sleep comfortably on your side.

I’ve discovered a lot of unique and unusual places to rest your head at night (underwater hotels and converted mental institutions come to mind), but I have to admit – tree camping has definitely leaft me gobsmacked (sorry, I could resist).
Bon Voyage,
Jenn
