Apple Releases the iPhone 4

The wait is over.

Well, it shouldn’t come as any big surprise that Apple has done it again – they’ve built up tons of anticipation for their latest gadget, encouraging techies from across the country to camp outside their stores for hours, even days, just so they can be one of the first to own the next iGizmo. And this time it was the iPhone 4.

Not only were phones flying off the shelves at Apple stores in places like Tokyo, Berlin and the U.S. (the New York Upper East Side store sold out by 10am), but big-boxers like Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Wal-Mart were also able to get their shipments out to the public on time. The companies had expressed doubt prior to the launch about whether they’d be able to deliver on time and meet the anticipated demand. As PC Magazine reported, Radio Shack had recently posted this message on their Facebook page: "We have heard you loud and clear, [and] we regret any confusion that may have been caused by the limited availability of iPhone 4 units at launch." But the stores were able to get the phones on shelves.

Yet the launch of the iPhone 4 wasn’t without its glitches – customer complaints began coming in shortly after they went on sale, as users experienced various problems with their new phones. These ranged from low connectivity, discolored spots that appeared on the screen, issues with third-party connection accessories, and exteriors that seemed to get damaged easily. Apple has not yet responded to these apparent complaints.

Even though lines went on for several city blocks, those who got their hands on one of the new iPhone 4s all seemed to agree – it was worth the wait.
